How do I make an appointment?

Since I only meet with a select number of clients each week, my appointments tend to fill up fast.  However, I usually reserve a few appointments specifically for initial consultations to see if we would be a good fit and if I think I might be able to help.

  • Send me an email at brian@brianolsentherapy.com

  • Or leave me a voicemail at (949) 432-6151 and we'll schedule some time to talk

I understand that therapy is an investment of both time and money, that's why our first session together is always free. It's easier to talk about the details of finances in person but here is an overview of what you can expect:

  • My current fee for weekly couples and individual therapy is $200 per session.

  • Check with your insurance company to find out if they will re-reimburse you for all or part of the cost. Each insurance company and plan is different so be sure to call them and find out more.  I can provide you a super-bill for you to submit to your insurance company. I am considered an out of network provider.

  • Some clients ask about a "sliding-scale" rates.  I do offer one or two reduced fee appointments each week for those in financial hardship. I can also give you a referral for low-income community based counseling.

What are your fees? Do you take insurance?

What if I'm not sure about therapy?

Many people are unsure or undecided about therapy at first. But keeping an open mind and thinking about the pros and cons might help you avoid missing out on something that could really make a difference for you and those you love.

Some THings to think about:

  • Schedule a no-cost consultation with me to get a feel for what therapy would be like. You can be honest and ask any questions you might have, before starting therapy.

  • No minimum number of sessions is required. Many people find help after just a few appointments while others want to go slower or more in depth over many months.

  • See it as an experiment. If you ever feel that therapy isn't working, it's not the right time, or we're not the best fit - you're able to end therapy at any time.

What can I expect from therapy?

Therapy is an individual and very relational process that takes shape over our sessions together. In general, we start with where you are at and what you are struggling with and work through the areas that keep you stuck. We'll meet once a week for 45min and work towards getting you to place where therapy is an option and not a necessity.

Theoretical approach:

  • Outcome Informed and Client Directed

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Therapy (DBT)

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT for couples)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

Feedback Informed treatment:

Clients who make the are able to provide the therapist with direct feedback on goals, expectations, and progress of therapy:

  • Are we working on the topics that are most important to you?

  • You feel heard, understood, and respected by me? Are we a good fit?

  • In sessions together does it make sense what we are doing and why?

  • Overall, is there anything missing from our time together?
